How to use this Book
Your Guide to Optimal Health: Creating Your Personal Wellness Wheel™ is designed as a tool to assist the individual, family, small group or large organization create a unique program of individual health.
The philosophy is straightforward. Individual health requires more than an annual physical examination or a periodic visit to your physician when severe medical symptoms persist. Individual health is about a proactive, preventative approach to health that utilizes sound, evidenced based medical principles. And it’s clear that the informed and educated patient is more likely to make healthy lifestyle choices and wise medical decisions. Good health is at the heart of how we enjoy our family time, our performance at work and our over all perception of satisfaction.
Individual health involves more than the diagnosis and treatment of illness. Individual health requires and awareness of lifestyle choices and consistent behaviors that enhance health. The use of evidence based diet, nutrition and hormone optimization strategies; an acknowledgement that stress related disorders can be effectively managed to improve health, and finally, the realization that the development of optimistic personality traits foster a clear path to health.
To gain the most out of this workbook experience and to build Your Personal Wellness Wheel™:
- Remember that each person is different. Some people begin stronger in one area relative to another area. Read the table of contents. Find out where you would like to begin. It does not matter in what order your spokes are constructed. Chose a challenging spoke or chose a simple spoke. There are only two rules. 1) Have Fun and 2) Commit to finishing
- After reading the chapter contents for background, be sure to spend time focusing on the exercises. For example, use the health food list in the Nutrition chapter (Ch. 3) to help guide your next grocery shopping expedition or chart your laboratory and screening test results in the table provided in the Chapter on Proactive Medicine (Ch. 2). My sincere hope is that at the end of the year, your book is dog-eared and tattered from its frequent use as a reference source.
- Remember that this is not meant to replace the advice of your primary physician. Always consult with your physician and never make any changes in your medicinal regimen without first discussing with your doctor.
- Become an advocate for your circle of life ie family, friend, co-workers. The creation of a personal wellness strategy is one of the most valuable gifts you will offer anyone. Evangelize about the benefits of healthy behaviors.
Wishing you the best of health,
