| The Thyroid Gland |
 The thyroid is located in the neck and stores hormones that help regulate heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, energy levels, weight, and fertility.
The two most important thyroid hormones are T3 and T4. T4 is 90% of the active thyroid hormone. Traditional thyroid therapy with synthyroid and levo-thyroxine help increase T4 levels.
The problem for many patients is that the first thyroid hormone to decrease is T3. T3 accounts for only 10% of the active hormone but it is the first to decrease with age, weight fluctuations, stress and chronic disease. Integrative cardiologists believe that low T3 levels indicate poor health and increase in disease processes. Most doctors DO NOT check this level. This is one of the key elements in maintaining thyroid health and for fertility! The medication to replace T3 is Cytomel or Thyroid Armour which is combination of T3 and T4.
The thyroid stimulating hormone, TSH, is produced by the brain and stimulates the production of T3 and T4 in the thyroid. It is the only test traditional medicine uses to check the thyroid gland. This test alone will miss many thyroid disorders!
When the thyroid becomes imbalanced, people complain of weight gain, dry skin, constipation, being cold, fatigue especially in the morning, infertility, hoarse voice, depression and menstrual irregularities.
The traditional medical approach is to wait until the thyroid labs show an abnormality before the person is treated. Dr Patel's Optimal Health approach is about being pro-active and preventative. | Radiesse |
| Radiesse is a safe, FDA-approved dermal filler that restores a natural, long lasting, youthful look. This treatment can restore facial volume, create a cheek and jaw line lift as well as correct smile lines, nasolabial folds, and wrinkles around the nose and mouth. It is not for the lips.
The area where Radiesse is injected, tiny calcium-based micropheres form a "scaffold" to support and stimulate the growth of collagen. Over time the
micropheres gradually breakdown and are safely absorbed by the body.
How Radiesse differs from Juvederm and Restylane is that the former two are just fillers. Radiesse will actually stimulate collagen wherever it is injected to help provide a more youthful, fuller look.
Radiesse gives you immediate results and can last up to a year or more. As with all injectable treatments, there is the risk of mild irritation, swelling, itching, bruising, or tenderness at the injection site.
