| CLA Helps Promote Fat Loss |
|
|
CLA, conjugated linoleic acid, is a dietary supplement that can help increase metabolism and fat loss. It is a form of omega 6, an essential fatty acid. The most abundant source of natural CLA comes from meat and dairy products of grassfed animals, not grainfed!
Benefits of CLA
Increases metabolic rate -- This is helpful especially for hypothyroid conditions which result in lowered metabolic function. .
·
Decreases abdominal fat -- Adrenal imbalances and hormonal shifts frequently cause rapid accumulation of abdominal fat
Enhances muscle growth -- Muscle burns fat, which also contributes to increased metabolism.
· ·
Lowers insulin resistance -- lowering it can also help prevent adult-onset diabetes and make it easier to control weight.
·
Reduces food-induced allergic reactions -- Since food allergies can be at play when weight loss becomes difficult, this can be of help.
·
Enhances immune system
Along with proper nutrition and exercise, the use of CLA over one year can decrease body fat. Remember, everything is connected. You can't pop a pill and eat ice cream regularly.

| Testosterone Can Help Prevent Insulin Resistance and Diabetes |
Testosterone has long been associated with libido but scientists are beginning to understand how it can also help us prevent diabetes!
As we age, our muscle mass turns to fat. Exercise, for those of us who engage in it, can slow this process down but it is not sufficient when coupled with declining hormone levels.
So as body fat increases, the body becomes resistant to insulin, the hormone that puts the sugar from the food into our organs to be used as energy. The higher the insulin level becomes, the more body fat that accumulates which then drives down our natural testosterone production. Furthermore, insulin resistance increases total silent inflammation in our bodies which increases our risk for heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. Additionally, insulin resistance increases the amount of the hormone Grehlin, which increases our appetite and constant desire to eat, which spirals us down toward disease.
Testosterone replacement along with good nutrition and exercise can stop this vicious cycle and begin to correct some of the imbalances. Testosterone builds muscle mass, which helps slow down body fat production. The lower the body fat, the lower the insulin levels become, which can then help decrease inflammation levels in the body. Lower inflammation levels help produce other critical hormones important for health and well being, which in turn increase natural production of all hormones. This higher natural production of hormones can then decrease the risk of heart disease and strokes. And when you add the synergy of good nutrition and exercise, you can spiral upwards towards Optimal Health.
This is in brief what scientists are finding about testosterone. As always testosterone therapy is only beneficial when it is used to optimize health and under monitored situations. Plant Based Protein Meals
People who have heard me speak, seen me, or read the book, know that I tell everyone, plant based proteins are the best. The question for many is how do I make plant based protein meals or combine plant based proteins with meat dishes. Since I grew up as a vegetarian and have learned to incorporate meat in my diet, I will share with you some simple, 30 minute meal ideas. One of my favorite is chili.
Multibean Chile with or without Turkey (Not a good recipe name but very yummy)
Ingredients:
1 red onion
1 can black beans
1 can kidney beans
1 can tomato sauce
1 green pepper
1 red pepper
Black olives if you like them
2 packets Sazon coriander and annotta
1 1/2 tsp ground cumin
1/4 tsp turmeric
chili pepper to taste if you like it spicy
garlic to taste (1-2 tsp)
1/2 tsp oregano
Ground turkey (if you want meat)
Olive oil
Heat the olive oil and saute the onions. Add the tomato sauce and spices; mix for a few minutes; add the beans, peppers and olives. Let simmer for 10-15 minutes. If you want to add ground turkey, then brown the turkey adding a packet of Sazon to it, put it in the tomato sauce first to let the spices cook into it and then add the vegetables. If you have children, add just 1/2 cup corn (yes, not good but one kernel per teaspoon is fine and kids really like it so much better). Serve with brown rice, alone, or with a fresh salad.
Health benefits: majority of protein from plants, rich in lycopene due to tomato sauce, mutiple vegetables incorporated in the meal, turmeric decreases joint inflammation and dementia, warming spices speed up metabolism and add taste, and good fats! Enjoy being low glycemic!
